Assessments can take place at our studio, at a child’s home or at their place of education.
All assessment packages are bespoke to the child and developed following an initial consultation with the referrer.
Before the assessment date:
Prior to the assessment, you will be asked to:
- Complete a few questionnaires about your child’s developmental history and their current strengths and needs
- Send questionnaires to your child’s place of education
- Read our terms and condition and complete a consent form
On the day:
Time is spent on arrival, building a rapport with your child and helping them feel at ease through child led play in the therapy room.
Your child will be guided through a series of activities by the therapist to assess their strengths and needs and to explore the reasons for their difficulties.
Whilst it can be hard, please do not prompt your child or help them with a task; the therapist will protect your child’s self-esteem and ensure they experience multiple successes throughout the session.
Please do, however, ‘cheerlead’ and comfort your child; praise them, encourage them and give reassurance when needed throughout the session.
Finding out the results of the assessment:
The therapist will discuss some key findings with you during the assessment session.
Following this our therapist will spend time analysing and scoring the assessment before producing a comprehensive report detailing the findings. This will be sent to you within 2-3 weeks of the assessment. You will subsequently be invited to meet with the therapist to discuss the findings and devise a therapeutic support package that suits the needs of your child and family.
