Collaborative Goal Setting

Meaningful goals set together

Session Information

Goal setting sessions take place every 12-16 weeks (or once per term). In the first session, the most important goals will be identified and agreed by the therapist, parent(s) and child. In future sessions, progress will be discussed and new goals and/or therapy approaches will be agreed.

Therapy goals:

When writing long term outcomes and identifying short term goals, therapists will apply the Live & Love it goals principles below.

Affirming

Promote the child being their authentic self.

One step at a time

Focussed on taking a step towards improved participation and performance without a predefined directions, stage or age expectation as the focus.

Functional

A practical activity as the focus, not an underlying skill without meaning.

Positive

Something they “can do” not something they will stop.

Meaningful

Important and worthwhile to the child and family.

Curiosity and collaboration sessions

An opportunity to be curious about a child’s goal or particular daily activity that is challenging and explore this in collaboration with the therapist. The sessions emphasise thoughtful discussion to deepen understanding of why something may be happening as it is and explore opportunities for growth and change.
