Equipment

Equipment and adaptations to make activities easier

Finding solutions using equipment to help

Therapists can suggest equipment to enable a child or young person to complete an activity with greater efficiency and satisfaction.

Equipment may be:

  • Trialled during assessments to inform recommendations in the report.
  • Exploring during therapy sessions
  • Tried out by attending a stay & Play
  • Lent to a school or taken along to an environmental support visit to try.

Types of equipment commonly explored:

  • Seating (Chairs, stools, cushions, floor sitters etc.)
  • Writing implements and pencil grips
  • IT Equipment (keyboard, mouse, lighting, desk set up)
  • Adaptive clothing and fastenings (easy fasten and sensory friendly)
  • Weighted and compression garments
  • Kitchen gadgets

Daily Living Skills sessions

Daily living skills sessions work on ADL’s and IADL’s through skill building and adaptations to achieve independence and/or interdependence in tasks.

Curiosity and collaboration sessions

An opportunity to be curious about a child’s goal or particular daily activity that is challenging and explore this in collaboration with the therapist. The sessions emphasise thoughtful discussion to deepen understanding of why something may be happening as it is and explore opportunities for growth and change.
